For the past four years, Charleston-Institute Links and employees from Covestro in Charleston. WV have been partners in an inspiring mission: providing STEM education to fifth-grade students at Mary C. Snow Westside Elementary. What began as a simple idea has grown into a thriving collaboration that continues to transform young minds.
Each year, the school’s fifth-grade students eagerly await the monthly hands-on activities and engaging lessons designed to spark curiosity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The Charleston-Institute Links, a chapter of an international women’s service organization dedicated to transforming communities through service, teamed up with Covestro, a global leader in polymer production, to bring STEM subjects to life in the classroom.
The program is more than just lessons and projects—it is about shaping the futures of these students. The partnership fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills by focusing on interactive learning, showing the children that STEM fields can be fun and accessible. Whether it is building simple machines, experimenting with chemical reactions, or exploring bridge construction, the students are introduced to concepts that have the power to change the world.
This collaboration has also served as a platform for role models, as Covestro employees and Links members volunteer their time, offering mentorship and career insights. The students gain more than just knowledge—they gain confidence in their ability to dream big and achieve great things in STEM.
